受中国科学院武汉岩土力学研究所的邀请，国际岩石力学学会日本国家小组主席、京都大学图书馆馆长大西有三教授于2005年8月31日对武汉岩土所进行了学术访问，并于当天上午就其最新的研究成果作了长达3个小时的学术报告。报告会由冯夏庭研究员主持，李海波研究员、李小春研究员、陈从新研究员以及60多名科研人员和研究生参加了报告会。
应中国科学院武汉岩土力学研究所的邀请，澳大利亚昆士兰大学、澳大利亚计算地球系统国家研究中心高级研究员邢会林博士于2005年8月23日对武汉岩土力学研究所进行了学术访问。下午3:30，邢会林博士在科研大楼201会议室做了题为“大规模多变形体间接触问题的有限元模拟”的学术报告。盛谦研究员参加并主持了会议。
受中国科学院武汉岩土力学研究所的邀请，法国路桥大学崔玉军教授于2005年8月8日和9日对岩土所进行了为期两天的学术访问。岩土所为崔教授举行了客座教授受聘仪式，正式聘请崔教授为岩土所客座教授。受聘仪式后，崔教授做了题为“非饱和土力学在岩土工程及环境工程中的一些应用”的专题学术报告。
